Bruno Remains At No1, 6th Week in a Row while Justin's "Suit & Tie" Powerfully Surges Closely Behind

Bruno Mars remains atop the Billboard Hot 100, as "Locked Out of Heaven" spends a sixth week at No. 1. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' "Thrift Shop," featuring Wanz, meanwhile, surges to No. 2, as it crowns the Digital Songs chart, and Justin Timberlake returns with "Suit & Tie."

As it maintains its command over the Hot 100, "Heaven" logs a fourth week at No. 1 on the Radio Songs chart, despite posting a 2% decrease to 146 million all-format audience impressions, according to Nielsen BDS. "Heaven" holds at No. 2 on On-Demand Songs, gaining by 2% to 1.07 million on-demand streams (and 1.28 million streams overall), according to BDS. It drops 3-4 on Digital Songs, down by 31% to 162,000 downloads sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Macklemore & Lewis' "Thrift Shop" roars 5-2 with the Hot 100's top Digital Gainer award. It concurrently dethrones Rihanna's "Diamonds" atop R&B/Hip-Hop Songs after a 14-week reign and notches a second week at No. 1 on Rap Songs. After the pair's independently-released album "The Heist" blasted onto the Billboard 200 at No. 2 the week of Oct. 27, the track reaches the top of Digital Songs, hiking by 18% to 279,000 downloads sold. Released on the act's Macklemore imprint (with distribution by ADA), the song is the first independently-distributed title to top Digital Songs since Artists for Haiti's "We Are the World 25: For Haiti," billed as on the We Are the World Foundation label, led the weeks of Feb. 27 and March 6, 2010.
Macklemore & Lewis' comical tribute to 99-cent bargains rules On-Demand Songs for a second frame, registering 1.33 million on-demand streams (up 19%). (It boasts 1.46 million overall streams.) "Thrift" charges 38-22 on Radio Songs (44 million, up 33%). The rap track is earning support at multiple formats, bulleting at No. 9 on Rhythmic, No. 17 on Alternative Songs and No. 23 on Pop Songs.
"Heaven" sports a lead of approximately 3,000 overall Hot 100 chart points over "Shop" (after leading last week's No. 2 title, "Diamonds," by about 8,000 points). "Locked" loses 13% of its points from last week and "Shop" gains by 20%, perhaps setting up a close race for No. 1 a week from now. Timberlake could also have a say in who occupies the summit next week; keep reading for details on Timberlake's track and expected top 10 rank next week.
The Lumineers' "Ho Hey" rebounds from No. 4 to its No. 3 peak to date on the Hot 100, while leading the Rock Songs chart for a ninth week. It stays at No. 3 on Radio Songs (1.13 million, down 3%), bullets again at No. 4 on On-Demand Songs (1.03 million, up 10%) and rises 7-5 on Digital Songs (153,000, down 18%).
After surging 4-2 two weeks ago, Taylor Swift's "Trouble" dipped to No. 3 last week, although with the Hot 100's top Airplay Gainer award. This week, the cut slips to No. 4 but claims the airplay ribbon again, ascending 7-4 on Radio Songs with a 17% increase to 95 million. "Trouble" falls 1-2 after three nonconsecutive week atop Digital Songs (261,000, down 20%). The song is not available to subscription streaming services and, thus, does not appear on On-Demand Songs.
Rihanna's former three-week Hot 100 No.  1 "Diamonds" slides 2-5 on the Hot 100, ahead of will.i.am and Britney Spears' "Scream & Shout" (8-6). The duet edges 4-3 on Digital Songs (189,000, down 7%) and enters the top 10 (11-10) on On-Demand Songs (793,000, up 19%). It pushes 21-17 on Radio Songs (53 million, up 16%).
EDM trio Swedish House Mafia scores its first Hot 100 top 10 with its fist chart entry, as "Don't You Worry Child," featuring John Martin, climbs 11-7. The track elevates 7-6 on On-Demand Songs (870,000, up 11%), 10-6 on Digital Songs (145,000, down 5%) and completes its top 10 trifecta by notching a 15-10 boost on Radio Songs (65 million, up 5%).
Rounding out the Hot 100's top 10, Justin Bieber's No. 5-peaking "Beauty and a Beat," featuring Nicki Minaj, descends 7-8, Phillip Phillips' "Home" falls to No. 9 from its No. 6 peak last week and Flo Rida's fellow No. 6-peaking "I Cry" is a non-mover at No. 10.
Among the Hot 100's seven debuts is Justin Timberlake's "Suit & Tie" at No. 84, his first radio-promoted entry as a lead artist in more than five years. The lead single from his forthcoming album "The 20/20 Experience" starts at No. 33 on Radio Songs with 36 million airplay impressions totaled in its first two days of airplay, as it was released at midnight Monday morning (Jan. 14).
Radio Songs runs on a Wednesday-through-Tuesday tracking period, so Monday and yesterday's airplay alone spurs the song's Hot 100 debut. Sales and streaming data run on a Monday-through-Sunday cycle, so those data fields will affect the Hot 100 standing for "Suit" starting next week. As it's projected to sell between 330,000 and 350,000 downloads by the end of the SoundScan tracking week on Sunday night (Jan. 20), and with a full week's-worth of streaming data factored in, as well, the song could challenge for the top of the Hot 100 when the chart is compiled, and highlights are posted on Billboard.com, next Wednesday (Jan. 23). Its airplay, however, may not be high enough by then for it to challenge for the No. 1 slot, although a vault to the top five is a possibility
