Single review: Ariana Grande's "The Way" (ft. Mac Miller)

I'm as guilty as anyone of drawing lazy comparisons between artists and songs, but in the case of Ariana's new single, likening it to Mariah Carey feels particularly valid because, well, it really sounds like a Mariah Carey song. And given the ...
immediate success the Nickelodeon-actress-turned-popstar has had with the track, we'll assume there are plenty of others who feel the same.
"I've got a bad boy I must admit it/ You got my heart don't know how you did it," she confesses with a powerful vocal beyond her years over a bouncy piano riff and throwback R&B beats, while Mac Miller invites her round to watch a movie ("American Beauty or Bruce Almighty? That's groovy"). The result is an unexpected triumph on all counts - and we suspect she feels the same way.

[fun fact: the song was written by cool cats such as the A.I. alum Jordin Sparks and the up and coming singer songwriter under Chris Brown's wings, Sevyn Streeter as well as the budding big time producer, Harmony Samuels who's catalogue involve  working with artists such as Maroon 5, Chris Brown, Mary J. Blige, Brandy Norwood, Jennifer Hudson, Ne-Yo, Keyshia Cole]
