After wide speculation and just 72 days of marriage, Kim Kardashian has filed divorce papers in a Los Angeles court to end her marriage to Kris Humphries.
Kim Kardashian: Why I Filed for Divorce from Kris Humphries
Kim Kardashian is opening up – just a little – about why she's ending her 72-day marriage to Kris Humphries."I hope everyone understands this was not an easy decision," she says in a statement to E!, which airs her reality shows. "I had hoped this marriage was forever, but sometimes things don't work out as planned. We remain friends and wish each other the best."
Kardashian, 31, cited "irreconcilable differences" in her Los Angeles Superior Court filing on Monday, saying the couple have a prenuptial agreement and asking the court to deny spousal support to Humphries.
"All of us at E! are surprised and saddened by this news, and we send our support to Kim and Kris at this difficult time," the network that airs the family's reality shows said in a statement.
"The Kardashians have always been uniquely open with all aspects of their lives from joyous events to intimate moments to heartbreaking transitions. E! will continue to share the fascinating real lives and larger-than-life existence of this close-knit family."
Kris Humphries: 'Devastated' but Still Wants Marriage to Work
Was Kris Humphries blindsided?
The NBA player says he's reeling from Kim Kardashian's decision to file for divorce after just 72 days of marriage.
"I love my wife and am devastated to learn she filed for divorce," he said in a statement Monday.
In August, Humphries, 26, and Kardashian, 31, exchanged vows in front of friends and family during a lavish ceremony at a private estate in Montecito, Calif., in front of 440 guests.
And despite her decision to call it quits, Humphries isn't prepared to give up so easily.
"I'm committed to this marriage and everything this covenant represents," he says in the statement, "and I'm willing to do whatever it takes to make it work."
