'The Voice's' Javier Colon to 'Tell Stories' on Debut Album [Billboard.com]

Three of the four finalists on NBC's "The Voice" are already making plans to start recording albums prior to a six-city tour that starts July 27 in Los Angeles at the Gibson Amphitheatre.

dropped by Capitol and as late as January was still doing showcases for labels, is the only one of the finalists guaranteed a deal. He intends to work with his coach, Maroon 5's Adam Levine, on his album for Universal Republic and, quite possibly, with his fellow contestants.
"One thing that was consistent throughout the show, I tried to pick songs that drew people in, songs that meant something to people," Colon told Billboard.com after his victory Wednesday night. "I'm a songwriter and I feel part of our job is be able to move them emotionally. Some of the best songs are songs that tell stories and I think my album will have those elements. Some of it will be just some guitar and my voice and there will be some fun stuff also. It will come from a singer-songwriter perspective with a soulful background."
Colon, a former member of the Derek Trucks Band who figured he would try to find a job in music education if "The Voice" did not pan out, said he and Levine expect to work together and that he may tap Cee Lo Green to work on the album, too.
"There is no doubt I'll be seeing Javier for a long time to come," Levine said. "I'd love to sing with him."
Runner-up Dia Frampton said she intends to continue working with her sister in the duo Meg & Dia, who have already released two lo-fi, folky albums. She has already asked her band members if they will back her on a solo outing -- both in the studio and on the road. "It will be more upbeat more rock oriented," she said, noting that her biggest thrill on the show was performing Tom Petty's hit "I Won't Back Down," which is representative of a direction she might take as a solo.
Vicci Martinez, the 26 year old blues-rock singer who shared the stage with Train's Pat Monahan on the finale, says she will be working again with Monahan in the near future. She says she intends to start working on an album within a week and that a deal is already in the works.
"I want it be over in two months," she told Billboard.com. "I don't want to spend six months on it. We got a single out in a week so I think we're OK." Martinez, Colon and Frampton all expressed a desire to write together.
Working with Monahan came as a pleasant surprise to her: She has covered Train songs for years, singing three or four per set as a youngster.
She was also effusive in her praise of the winner Colon. " If you ever meet his wife and kids, he's just beaming. He's a role model for men -- put your family first and be a good dude. That what he is."
Colon, Martinez, Frampton and Beverly McClellan, who would not speculate about any album deals, will be joined by Frenchie Davis, Nakia, Casey Weston and Xenia on the "The Voice" tour. After Los Angeles, the tour runs through Las Vegas (July 30), Chicago (Aug. 2), Boston (Aug. 4), Wallingford, Conn. (Aug.5) and New York (Aug. 6). Two more dates are being negotiated and it may end in Atlantic City, NJ. Live Nation is promoting the tour.
