One way or another, One Direction's charity single managed to leak nearly two weeks ahead of its official release. The fivesome had recorded Blondie's legendary track, "One Way or Another," for the U.K. charity Comic Relief, with all proceeds helping those affected by famine in Africa. The song wasn't set to hit the streets until February 17, and Louis Tomlinson expressed his sadness over the leak and what it might mean for proceeds.
"I hear the charity single has been leaked. Very sad to see. Don't forget together we are trying to raise money for Comic Relief," he tweeted. "Please get behind an incredible charity and make a real difference. You can pre-order now from iTunes for the official track. Thank you."
The bouncy, popified version of the classic was produced by Julian Bunetta, who also worked with the guys on their Take Me Home tracks "C'mon, C'mon," "I Would," and "They Don't Know About Us."
The release is timed to mark the 25th anniversary of Red Nose Day, a fundraising event held by the organization which officially takes place on March 15.
While fans have gotten a taste of the track, the guys will perform the song live at the Brit Awards on February 20. "Getting the chance to perform Blondie's song will be incredible. We're so excited!" Tomlinson said about the performance before the track was leaked. "Red Nose Day is a great excuse to have a lot of fun and to raise money, please get involved."
"We are really excited to be part of Red Nose Day this year," Niall Horan added about the track. "We recorded Blondie's 'One Way or Another' and we really want the song to raise lots of money and for people to show their support by going out and buying themselves a copy."One way or the other, people will still go and buy the single so take heart boys!
